Wirtgen Updates F-Series Compact Milling Machine Cabins

Ergonomics has become an increasingly important part of the conversation around heavy machinery, and the asphalt and road building industry is no exception. Earlier this year, Wirtgen showed its commitments to improving performance, efficiency, and sustainability when their redesigned versions of their compact milling machines released, the F-Series. Now it moves to reinforce its innovative approach in the areas of operator comfort and support through the implementation of the new "Comfort Cabin". This is a first for the company when it comes to such an option on a compact class machine.

The new operators cabin for the W 100 Fi - W 130 Fi models looks to set a new standard when it comes to the design of a comfortable, low-fatigue environment. Not only does it offer an excellent level of protection from noise pollution and excess emissions, but it is also automatically climate controlled. This means the fully enclosed space is able to handle all environments and all temperatures. 

The incoming air is also filtered, and the interior space set up as a positive pressure environment, which will help prevent the accumulation of dirt, dust, or other particulates and hazardous materials.

According to a press release from the Wirtgen Group, "The increased comfort and lower impact of environmental influences inside the cabin effectively reduce stress and fatigue. The cabin offers the operator an attractive working environment with state-of-the-art control elements and assistance systems that are unique in this class."

In addition to all the environmental and ergonomic benefits, the enclosed cabin is reportedly so quiet that communication with operators is much easier than ever before. Whether using a hands free phone to make a call or a radio headset, communications with the rest of your crew should be a snap. And when the cabin is closed and locked up, all the control elements are secure and effectively protected against any possible tampering. Perhaps, in the past, you needed to remove and stow protective covers or fold-away panels, but this would eliminate the need for such routines.

Overall, the new cabins look modern and fresh, and improvements to comfort when an operator needs to be seated for extended hours are always a bonus. If it means the difference between getting the job done in a timely and efficient manner, it is a win-win for everybody.
