Originally developed by the Portland Cement Association, the 2023 edition of NRMCA 100 has been published by the National Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). With this updated edition, NRMCA assumes responsibility for the development and maintenance of the standard.
Prescriptive Design of Exterior Concrete Walls for One- and Two-Family Dwellings was accepted as a standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on January 4, 2024. The report is available for download from NRMCA.
NRMCA 100 provides a simplified approach to the design of concrete footings, foundation walls and above-grade walls, both load bearing and non-load bearing, intended primarily for use in detached one- and two-family dwellings. This 2023 edition of NRMCA 100 coordinates with the design criteria of the ASCE/SEI 7-16, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, and ACI 318-19, Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary.
“It has been a pleasure working with industry leaders in the development of NRMCA 100–2023, Prescriptive Design of Exterior Concrete Walls for One- and Two-Family Dwellings,” says NRMCA 100 Committee Chair and Chief Operating Officer for NileBuilt Corp. Michael Weber. “As residential builders are required to construct more resilient, energy efficient and sustainable homes, NRMCA’s leadership role in updating this standard provides the guidance required for transitioning from wood to concrete building systems.”
NRMCA Director, Codes and Standards, Julian Mills-Beale, PhD, adds, “Ensuring the resilient design and construction of exterior concrete walls is vital as communities face the rising occurrence of extreme weather events. By supporting this standard, NRMCA is committed to guide our industry toward providing structurally safe one- and two-family dwellings for the buildings market.”
Founded in 1930, NRMCA is the leading industry advocate representing the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. Its mission is to create opportunities for our members and the industry to prosper through leadership in safety, environmental and operational excellence, promotion, advocacy, workforce development, and concrete technology advancements.
