Milwaukee Tool has introduced new M18 FUEL ½-in. Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches with TORQUE-SENSE for construction projects and equipment installations. Developed and tested for the solar industry, utility-scale solar projects are provided with customizable reporting for installation.

“The solar industry has experienced significant growth in recent years with the demand for clean energy spreading across the globe,” explained Mark Kelly, senior product manager at Milwaukee Tool. “Currently, many Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies rely on the ’Two-Step Method’ to achieve mandated torque specifications on mechanical racking by first fastening the bolt down with an impact wrench followed by manually torquing the bolt with a click-style torque wrench. This process not only wastes valuable man-hours with extra processing but is also heavily dependent on operator technique to ensure torque accuracy. Partnering in research and development with industry leaders, it became clear that EPC companies needed smarter and more precise fastening power tools to meet their rising demands. We set out to develop a solution that could achieve repeatable torque results that allow EPCs to operate more efficiently, reduce errors, handle extreme jobsite conditions, and provide increased visibility to installation performance.”

TORQUE-SENSE dynamic fastening technology delivers repeatable torque from a cordless impact wrench during output. Performance over the two-step method comes from the tool’s ability to account for jobsite variance. Designed to handle the demands of the solar industry, the Compact Wrench provides an operating torque range of 50-150 ft.-lbs. and the Mid-Torque wrench delivers a range of 50-250 ft.-lbs.

The M18 FUEL Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches with TORQUE-SENSE allow transparency of the tools on a jobsite and create detailed reports of the fastening process. Designed with the Milwaukee ONE-KEY digital connectivity platform, tracking and management of assets are provided, delivering detailed digital reports. Features included with these capabilities, like tool utilization, error report summaries and tool owner customization, present detailed insight into a tool and user's activity, helping generate reports that can help prove work has been properly completed. Managed within a fully customizable app and backed by a large Bluetooth tracking community, ONE-KEY technology helps connect sites, people and equipment for visibility into both the jobsite and solar installation process. 

Additional features include LED indication lights that provide users with feedback in application and the capability to set four unique torque levels at once for repetitive fastening. Enabled by the combination of POWERSTATE brushless motors, REDLINK PLUS Intelligence and REDLITHIUM battery technology, these new M18 FUEL solutions minimize steps within the installation process.
