Since the acquisition of its British facility at Coventry in 2017, Mecalac has added backhoe-loaders, site dumpers and compaction rollers to its existing ranges of excavators and loaders. With the introduction of rollers into its product mix, the company began to look for ways to improve both the efficiency of work and the safety of the driver, starting with the driver’s position. 
The result is the TV1200 concept vibratory roller driven exclusively with a joystick on the right console. In removing the rollers steering column, access to the machine is safer and operation is more comfortable. The space freed up in the operator environment lets the driver settle easily into position. With their back comfortably against the seat and right hand on the joystick, the operator has complete freedom to position their legs comfortably while keeping their eye on the work. The driver also has a clear view of the major driving information.
The roller’s entire architecture has been redesigned for better visibility to ease operation and respond to user demands. The curves are redesigned, the shape of the roller support now integrates with that of the hood and a front grille has been added. The steps have also been redesigned for easy access from any side.
The 25-hp TV1200 has a total operating weight of 6,448.5 lbs., a 24-ft. 11-in. turning circle and travel speeds up to 6.2 mph. It has a 3-ft. 11-in. drum width, delivers nearly 5,400 lbs. of of centrifugal force, has a frequency of 63 Hz and delivers an amplitude of .6 mm. Static linear load is 67.2 lbs./in.
The TV1200 was on display at the bauma trade fair, where it was nominated for the Innovation Award in the design category.
