CONFAST
CONFAST Concrete Machine Screw Anchors are female type concrete anchors designed for anchoring into concrete, brick or block. After installation, the fixture is removable because the anchor can be left in the concrete. The machine screw or bolt can then be unscrewed and removed, which offers additional versatility to CONFAST machine screw anchor applications.
- Internal machine screw threads.
- Best suited for light- to medium-duty fastening purposes.
- Available in 3/16" (#10), 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" diameters.
- Made from a highly corrosive zinc-based alloy called Zamac.
- Manufactured from rust-resistant materials.
- Present a fastener choice when irregular hole sizes are a concern.
Technical specifications that must be considered when using the machine screw anchor include:
- Diameter, internal thread length
- Minimum embedment
- Required hole size
- Length (To determine the minimum length of machine bolt required, add the thickness of the material being fastened to the machine screw anchor length.)
- Spacing (The forces on a machine screw anchor are transferred to the material in which it is installed. If the anchors are installed too close together, it can cause an interaction of the forces, thus reducing the holding power of the anchor. As a rule of thumb, the expansion anchor industry has established a minimum standard of ten anchor diameters for spacing between anchors and five anchor diameters from an unsupported edge.)
Installing a #8 -32 Machine Screw Anchor:
- Drill a 5/16" hole into the concrete using a carbide-tipped bit that meets ANSI Standards B212.15. The depth of the hole can be deeper or equal to the minimum embedment depth of 1/2", which is equal to the length of the anchor
- Clean the hole with a wire brush, vacuum, compressed air or a blow-out bulb.
- Insert the anchor into the hole with the threaded cone end first.
- Take the correct #8 -32 Machine Screw Anchor setting tool and insert the smaller diameter end into the open end of the #8 -32 Machine Screw Anchor.
- Strike the end of the setting tool with a hammer until the anchor is fully set.
- The #8 -32 Machine Screw Anchor is now set. A #8 diameter bolt can be inserted into the #8 -32 Machine Screw Anchor with a maximum torque of 15 inch-pounds.
- Always use proper personal protective equipment per manufacturer's and OSHA instructions.
