Every piece of equipment eventually slows down and becomes no longer viable for the jobsite. Contractors should keep track of a machine's number of hours to get a better idea of when it might need to be replaced. There's also lots of new technology -- both software and hardware --on the market that increase a number of efficiencies, which may persuade a contractor to replace equipment sooner than planned.
