Arcosa Lightweight
Arcosa Lightweight begins with a raw material of select shale or clay, which is quarried at or near the company's manufacturing facilities. The raw material is processed by heating in rotary kilns at temperatures in excess of 2000° F under carefully controlled conditions. The result is a structural grade ceramic lightweight aggregate that is screened to produce precise gradings required for use in asphalt surface treatments, structural lightweight concrete, concrete masonry, geotechnical fill and many other applications. This high quality lightweight aggregate is inert, durable, tough, stable, highly insulative, and free draining. It has been used extensively in asphalt road surfaces, concrete bridge decks, high-rise buildings, precast/prestressed concrete elements, backfill for retaining walls and bulkheads, and many other types of projects in which the combination of low density and high strength is required.
Arcosa Lightweight is the largest producer of rotary kiln expanded shale and clay lightweight aggregate in North America, with production facilities in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Louisiana, Indiana, Kentucky, and Texas.
